HISTORY OF MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. WEEK FOR PEACE

The committee was established in 1987 and is a consortium between Dillard (99), Loyola (91), Tulane (87) and Xavier (87) universities.  Each year, we sponsor a week-long series of  events including: an interfaith service, a convocation featuring a guest speaker, student and community forums, tributes to students and outstanding community leaders, collaborative community service projects,  and culminating the series of events with a candlelight march and unity celebration.  The series of events are sponsored annually to commemorate, celebrate and reflect on the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his vision of collective work and social justice.
