Academic Opportunities

Currently, there is no Queer Studies major or minor offered at Tulane. There are, however, a number of ways for students interested in issues of sexual orientation and gender identity to explore them in their academic work.

  • Enroll in Women's Studies courses. While women's studies and queer studies are not synonymous, there is often overlap in these two areas. The Women's Studies Department often offers courses related to queer issues; see this semester's schedule of classes for a complete list. Tulane Women's Studies Program

  • Earn credit by working with the Office of Multicultural Affairs-Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Life. (Talk to Timothy for more information. contact the office of Service Learning)

  • Do an independent study with a queer-friendly professor. There are faculty members in many departments that have expertise in areas related to gender/sexuality. Need help finding them? Contact Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Life for help find a faculty member who specializes in your area of interest.

  • Use queer resources avaliable on campus to help with your academic research.
